Mike Vrabel reveals where Stefon Diggs stands with Patriots

Stefon Diggs may be winning over the New England Patriots, at least based on new comments from head coach Mike Vrabel.

Vrabel was much more positive toward Diggs in comments he made Monday about how the wide receiver is fitting in with the team. Vrabel praised Diggs’ “energy” and added that the wide receiver is putting in good effort.

“Good. I mean, he’s tried to figure out where everything is and what his role is, making sure that as we add those situations — the third down, the no-huddle, the red zone — that he’s staying up on it,” Vrabel said of Diggs, via Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. “He’s working hard in his rehab and when he can — there’s certain drills he can be out there and certain drills he won’t be. But I think he’s engaged and I like his energy.”

That is a far cry from what Vrabel said about Diggs before. The wide receiver had found himself in hot water with the team after being filmed flashing a pink substance on a party boat.

There was even some speculation that the video might cost Diggs his spot on the Patriots, but that does not seem to be the case anymore. Vrabel’s comments would underline that.

The Patriots signed Diggs to a three-year, $63.5 million contract in March, hoping he would provide a veteran weapon for QB Drake Maye. His time with New England got off to an inauspicious start, but he appears to be winning the team over again with his efforts in minicamp. Ultimately, the party boat video may prove to be little more than a blip that winds up forgotten by the end of the season.
