Former Ohio State standout and likely soon-to-be head coach in the NFL again Mike Vrabel appeared on ‘ManningCast’ on Monday night when the Baltimore Ravens beat the Los Angeles Chargers.
Vrabel talked about numerous things with Peyton and Eli Manning. Perhaps the most interesting thing during Vrabel’s segment late in the game may have been when Urban Meyer was the topic of discussion.
Actor Owen Wilson appeared on the airing earlier in the game and shared that Urban Meyer and he had an interesting encounter once.
"Who are you?... How do I know you?" Meyer asked Wilson during a celebrity flag football game. "I'm on your team,” Wilson said.
Vrabel said that he once had an encounter similar to that one with the former OSU head coach. Mind you that Vrabel played at Ohio State in the 1990s and was an assistant coach for Meyer along the defensive line for the 2012 and 2013 seasons in Columbus.
"I can relate with Owen Wilson. Urban Meyer asked him 'Do I know you?', and Urban Meyer, when I was coaching the Titans and he was coaching the Jaguars, he actually said the same thing to me," explained Vrabel. "I said yeah I'm the head coach for the Titans and I worked for you for two years."

As we all know, the Jaguars’ tenure did not go well for Meyer. It lasted 13 games and Jacksonville was 2-11 at the time of his firing. Last less than a season doesn’t happen often in Columbus and it takes a real dumpster fire for that to happen.
Vrabel saying that Meyer didn’t recognize him makes one think that had to be quite an awkward encounter. The former Tennessee Titans head coach worked under Meyer at Ohio State and had to report to him.
Expect Vrabel to be amongst the names floated around for head coaching jobs at the end of the regular season when jobs open up. As for Meyer, he continues to work for Fox as a college football analyst.
