Dallas Cowboys running back Miles Sanders has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, EVP Stephen Jones said Friday on 105.3 The Fan. That means rookie Jaydon Blue will now take over as the Cowboys’ RB2 behind Javonte Williams.

Sanders signed a one-year contract with the Cowboys as the franchise overhauled its running back room. He served as Williams’ primary backup to start the season before knee and ankle injuries kept him out of last week’s game against the New York Jets. Through four games, Sanders took 20 carries for 117 yards and a touchdown.

In Sanders’ absence last week, Blue suited up for the Cowboys for the first time. Now, the former Texas standout is the primary backup running back behind Williams, and Jones expressed his excitement.

“We’re so fired up about what Jaydon Blue can do for this offense,” Jones said, via The Athletic’s Jon Machota.

Miles Sanders spent the last two years with the Carolina Panthers before signing with the Cowboys. He started his career with the Philadelphia Eagles, putting together a Pro Bowl season in 2022 when he rushed for 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Williams has taken over the Dallas backfield after also signing with the franchise this offseason. He leads the team with 447 rushing yards and five touchdowns – the only running back with multiple touchdowns this year. His rushing ability helps complement a passing attack led by Dak Prescott, who is completing 71.3% of his passes for 1,356 yards and 10 touchdowns en route to a 2-2-1 start.

It’s been quite the resurgence for Williams, who rushed for just 513 yards last year with the Denver Broncos. He spoke about his bounce-back season earlier this week and how he managed to take a leap after signing a one-year deal with the Cowboys.

“It was a time I thought it was gonna be over with, but I just kept going,” Williams said, via DallasCowboys.com’s Patrik Walker. “The coach has a lot of trust in me. I like my teammates. I feel like everybody plays together, and we complement each other well; and there’s a competition in the running back room. That’s what really made me go so hard.”

The Cowboys are currently gearing up for this week’s game against the Panthers. Kickoff is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
