Minnesota Vikings Have No Plans To Trade Justin Jefferson
Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

The 2024 NFL Free Agency has been a tough one in some regard for the Minnesota Vikings. They suffered a major loss with quarterback Kirk Cousins opting to leave, signing a four-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons.

With Cousins moving on, the Vikings were left with a huge void in their starting lineup. Nick Mullens and Jaren Hall were the only other quarterbacks on the roster before they agreed to a one-year deal with Sam Darnold of the San Francisco 49ers.

That trio likely doesn’t instill a ton of confidence in the fan base as all three are unproven commodities. It will be interesting to see how the quarterback situation impacts other players on the Vikings, namely wide receiver Justin Jefferson.

Will Jefferson want to commit to Minnesota long-term without a plan in place at quarterback? With only the fifth-year option on his rookie deal remaining, the Vikings have to figure things out with their star wide receiver sooner rather than later.

Some analysts are wondering whether Cousins’ departure would mean that Jefferson will soon follow him out the door. Teams around the NFL would line up to acquire a player as talented as him, even with what would be a massive asking price.

Alas, from the sounds of it, not even a king’s ransom would get the Vikings to part ways with Jefferson. According to Dianna Russini and Alec Lowe of The Athletic, their plans have not changed.

The Vikings were reportedly close to finalizing an extension with Jefferson last year and are going to work hard on getting one done again. Even without Cousins in the mix, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has rejected the idea of trading their star.

That is certainly good news for the fan base, as Jefferson is as good as it gets at wide receiver in the NFL. Those are the kind of players you want to see your team build around for the long haul, not move on from after their rookie deals.
