The Minnesota Vikings extended a Super Bowl-winning wide receiver for the 2024 season following the news earlier Tuesday the team would have a new quarterback for the season. The Atlanta Falcons are set to sign Kirk Cousins to a four-year deal worth $180 million on Wednesday.
The Vikings are set to sign San Francisco 49ers quarterback Sam Darnold on Wednesday. He will compete for the QB1 job next season. The Vikings have a solid wide receivers corps for Darnold to work with, including Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson. They extended another pass catcher Tuesday afternoon.
Per Adam Schefter with ESPN, the Vikings are extending Brandon Powell for one season.

Powell caught 29 passes on 44 targets for 324 yards and one touchdown for Minnesota last season. He had his best career statistical season with the Vikings in 2023. Powell started his career with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent.
Powell earned a Super Bowl ring during the 2021 season when he was a member of the Los Angeles Rams. Powell isn’t the only wide receiver the Vikings had to consider extending. Jefferson is set to play on his fifth-year option for the 2024 season.
