The Minnesota Vikings and Safety Josh Metellus agreed to a three-year $36 million contract extension on Saturday. This contract includes $25 million guaranteed. Metellus had a strong season in 2024. He had 103 total tackles, 2 interceptions, and a forced fumble. Metellus debuted in 2020 but has been a crucial part of Minnesota’s defense over the last two seasons. Will he contribute positively to the defense of the Minnesota Vikings in 2025?

Metellus will be featured on a Vikings defense that should be strong in 2025. Minnesota’s secondary includes Harrison Smith and Byron Murphy Jr. Minnesota’s defense struggled against the pass in 2024. They were 28th in that department. On a positive note, they had 24 interceptions. That was the most in the league last year.
Minnesota’s defense will need to carry the load early in the year. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy is an unknown quantity. After not taking a regular season snap in his rookie year, he might need some time to find his footing. Signing Metellus is a shrewd move by the Minnesota Vikings. He will look to be in the team’s secondary for years to come and continue improving.
