Many of the professional sports organizations in the state of Minnesota are dealing with franchise-changing television and radio questions… and consternation. Not the Minnesota Vikings, though. The NFL uses a national TV broadcasting plan that no longer has local blackout issues. Live radio coverage, however is left in the hands of each organization. For example, the Vikings radio partner since 2001 has been KFAN Radio (100.3 FM), now owned by iHeartMedia. And on Friday morning, a new contract extension between KFAN and the Vikings was announced. It’s a 7-year deal that runs through the 2031 season. When it ends, the two sides will have been radio partners for 31 years. The Minnesota Vikings franchise will 70 years old (1961) when this extension expires. This is good news. There really is no other market in the National Football League that has established a radio broadcast partnership like what the Vikings have with KFAN.
