Tai Felton is quickly turning heads in Minnesota Vikings training camp, transforming from a depth piece into a player the coaching staff can no longer overlook.

With Jordan Addison sidelined by a thumb injury during Wednesday’s practice, Felton seized the opportunity and delivered another strong session. His recent work has shown consistent production and explosive moments that suggest he is ready for a larger role.

Earlier in the week, Felton went viral after making a spectacular one-handed touchdown catch in the back of the end zone. That highlight was no isolated flash.

On Wednesday, he continued the momentum by hauling in a 60-yard touchdown pass, reinforcing his value as a legitimate downfield threat. These plays are the latest evidence of a young receiver who has steadily improved and is maximizing every chance he receives.

Felton’s college career at Maryland provided a solid foundation for this emergence. Over four seasons he developed into one of the program’s most productive receivers, finishing with 172 catches for 2,207 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Those numbers rank among the school’s all-time leaders. His junior and senior years stood out in particular. In 2023 he started every game, posted 723 receiving yards and six scores, and earned All-Big Ten third-team recognition.

The following season ,he set a Maryland record with 96 receptions, added 1,124 yards and nine touchdowns, and claimed first-team All-Big Ten honors while leading the conference in catches and yardage.

As a rookie with the Vikings last season, Felton contributed mainly on special teams. He appeared in all 17 games, returning seven kickoffs for 178 yards, and recorded three receptions for 25 yards.

The limited offensive opportunities still offered glimpses of the playmaking ability that defined his college production.

This year Felton is competing for the fourth wide receiver position behind Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and Jauan Jennings. The Vikings’ receiving corps is strong at the top, yet reliable depth remains valuable.

Felton has done enough through consistent practices and big plays to force serious consideration for a roster spot.

Preseason games will provide the next evaluation, but the early returns from camp already indicate that the former Maryland standout is making it difficult for the team to keep him on the sidelines.
