The Minnesota Vikings finished with a 9-8 record in the NFL last season. Minnesota missed the playoffs last season after finishing with a 14-3 record the previous season. One of the reasons why the Vikings were not successful last season was because of quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
He did not play well, and he was also injured for part of the season. It was a mistake that Minnesota kept McCarthy around and didn't bring back Sam Darnold. Darnold won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks last season.
This made Vikings fans sick. They need a quarterback that can lead them to a Super Bowl. Can Aaron Rodgers be the guy that Minnesota potentially signs in free agency this offseason?
Rodgers is still deciding in whether he wants to retire, go back to the Pittsburgh Steelers, or go to another NFL team this offseason. Last offseason, there were potential rumors about him heading to the Vikings, but Minnesota wanted to let it ride with McCarthy instead.
Well, the Vikings may want to pursue Rodgers instead if he doesn't retire. Jay Busbee, a senior writer for Yahoo Sports hints at the possibility of the Vikings signing Rodgers this offseason. Busbee said, "It’s been lurking out there all along, the Stations of Brett Favre: Win a ring with Green Bay, don a different shade of green in New York, then finish up in Minnesota. Rodgers deviated from the path to go to Pittsburgh, but he’s got the chance now to replicate one of the most iconic “How can we miss you if you won’t go away?” runs in sports history. As long as he doesn’t repeat Favre’s final throw in Minnesota — yep, an interception — all will be OK.
There’s no real timeline for Rodgers to make a decision, though it’s likely both the Steelers and Vikings will want to nail down their QB situation before the draft. And the Kyler Murray factor could speed up the calendar a bit. No matter which way he goes — Pittsburgh, Minnesota or a podcast studio — Rodgers will have eyes on him."
With the Arizona Cardinals releasing Kyler Murray, there is no question that Minnesota will have interest in him. The New York Jets might have interest in him as well. Does Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell want a scrambling quarterback or a pocket quarterback like Rodgers?
If Minnesota were to sign the 42-year-old star quarterback, they would no doubt be a serious contender next season. Justin Jefferson maybe one of the best wide receivers he could potentially ever throw to in his NFL career. Last season with Pittsburgh, Rodgers completed 65.7% of his passes for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
