Mississippi State Mourns Death of Bulldog Legend and Former Cowboys Super Bowl Champion

The Mississippi State community is in mourning following the death of D.D. Lewis, a beloved Bulldog legend and former Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl champion. Lewis, who passed away at the age of 79, left an indelible mark on both college and professional football.

Lewis began his football journey at Mississippi State, where he established himself as a standout linebacker. His performances earned him All-American honors, paving the way for his entry into the NFL. Selected by the Cowboys in the sixth round of the 1968 draft, Lewis quickly became an integral part of Dallas’ famed Doomsday Defense, known for its toughness and tenacity.

During his 13-season career with the Cowboys, Lewis played in five Super Bowls and helped secure two championships in 1972 and 1978. His resilience was evident, as he missed only four regular-season games throughout his career, showcasing his commitment to the game and his team. Lewis also held the record for the most playoff games played in NFL history at one point, a testament to his longevity and skill.
