Tuesday, with the start of the NFL season quickly approaching, all 32 teams trimmed their active rosters from 90 to 53 players. Wednesday, several of those players waived or released landed on practice squads.
This included former Missouri Tigers quarterback Brady Cook and kicker Harrison Mevis, who were among 13 players signed to the New York Jets practice squad.

Cook signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent in May. One of four quarterbacks competing to make the team, he saw action in all three of the Jets preseason games, completing 65.8 percent (25-of-38) of his passes for 235 yards and a touchdown. The Jets ended up keeping two signal callers - Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor - on their 53-man roster.
Prior to beginning his NFL career, Cook played five seasons (2020-'24) at Mizzou, playing in 46 games with 39 starts. He completed 65.5 percent of his passes for 9,013 yards and 49 Touchdowns and 13 interceptions during his time at Mizzou. Cook also compiled a 143.53 pass efficiency rating and was the first Tigers quarterback to start in four bowl games.
Mevis, appropriately nicknamed the 'Thiccer Kicker,' originally signed with the Jets in June following an impressive UFL season. Playing for the Birmingham Stallions, he connected on 20-of-21 field goal attempts (95.2 pct. accuracy) and ranked third among all UFL kickers in scoring with 60 points in 2025.
In four season at Mizzou (2020-'23), Mevis compiled 405 points, becoming the school's all-time leading scorer. He also had a flair for the dramatic, kicking multiple game-winning field goals including a 61-yarder to beat Kansas State on September 16, 2023, which set the record for the longest field goal in SEC history.
Five other former Tigers landed on NFL practice squads - rookie wide receiver Theo Wease Jr. (Miami Dolphins), tight end Albert Okwuebunam Jr. (Las Vegas Raiders), running back Cody Schrader (Los Angeles Rams), and offensive lineman Marcellus Johnson (Indianapolis Colts) and Trystan Colon (Detroit Lions).
