With the trade deadline just three days away, the San Francisco 49ers appear to be buyers. Will they be able to land a game-changer for the second half of the season though?
The 49ers already made a splash earlier this week by acquiring Keion White in a trade with the New England Patriots. They're hoping the former second-round pick from Georgia Tech can return to his 2024 form. After all, he racked up 56 tackles and five sacks last season.
At the end of the day though, White won't be able to replace All-Pro pass rusher Nick Bosa for the 49ers. If they really want to be contenders in the NFC, they'll have to make another move before Tuesday's trade deadline.
During this Friday's episode of "Get Up," ESPN analyst Peter Schrager mentioned the 49ers as a potential suitor for Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson.
"If I’m the San Francisco 49ers and I just acquired Keion White from the Patriots, I am calling the Cincinnati Bengals and I am calling every day and I’m saying, 'What will it cost to get us Trey Hendrickson?' We know the injuries have hit them. We also know they're still in the thick of things," Schrager said. "Keion White is a nice piece, I guess, but Trey Hendrickson down the stretch against the Rams and Seahawks..."
Hendrickson has been great for the Bengals, compiling 171 total tackles, 120 QB hits, 61 sacks and 12 forced fumbles since 2021.
If the Bengals ultimately decide to deal Hendrickson before Tuesday's deadline, the 49ers won't be the only team making calls for him.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Dallas Cowboys are in the market for a pass rusher.
"Up to this point, the Bengals have rebuffed trade inquiries, and sources have maintained that Cincinnati has no plans to trade Hendrickson right now," Fowler wrote. "The Cowboys and 49ers are among the interested teams, though San Francisco made a move for a pass rusher Tuesday night
Hendrickson's future might just be determined by this Sunday's game between the Chicago Bears and Cincinnati Bengals.
Another loss for the Bengals could result in Hendrickson being traded. We're just not sure where he'll end up.
