The Philadelphia Eagles are in New Orleans for the Super Bowl, and the NFC Champions are looking for their second title in franchise history. They're getting another shot against the team they lost to in Super Bowl 57, the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Eagles have been impressive in the playoffs so far with wins over the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams and Washington Commanders. They're only one win away from realizing the season's ultimate goal, but there appears to be at least one more obstacle in their way before the big game on Sunday.
Multiple Eagles players are dealing with illness this week, and one star player on the team says it's affected at least a handful of players.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, veteran offensive lineman Lane Johnson noted that at least "four or five" players are sick heading into Sunday's matchup against Kansas City.
Johnson also noted that whatever they've come down with was affecting them ahead of their departure from Philly.
Defensive tackle Jalen Carter missed media availability and Wednesday's practice with an illness, but he was a full participant on Thursday - great news for Philadelphia heading into the weekend.
Rookie defensive back Quinyon Mitchell has laryngitis, but has yet to be listed on the team's injury report.
Mike Sielski of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that some team officials have been wearing masks recently, likely in an effort to protect themselves or stop the spread of whatever the illness is.
The Eagles will look to have as many of their stars healthy and ready to go for Sunday night's game, as they try to prevent the Chiefs from winning a third straight Super Bowl.
Kansas City began their current run with a win over the Eagles in a close game two years ago.
The Chiefs were able to pick up the win after a late field goal from Harrison Butker, one of the Chiefs players present for all three Super Bowl titles the team has won during the Andy Reid era.
Only four players remain from the Eagles' Super Bowl victory over the Patriots at the end of the 2017 season: Lane Johnson, Brandon Graham, Jake Elliott and Rick Lovato.
The roster turnover - and the differences at head coach, quarterback and other important positions - shows just how much the Eagles have had to do to put themselves in a position to win another Super Bowl.
We'll see if they can get a handle on the illness affecting the team this week, and if they're able to take down the two-time defending champions on Sunday in New Orleans.
