The Buffalo Bills will welcome Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens to Highmark Stadium for the Divisional Round clash, which pits two of the best teams in football against each other for a chance at an AFC Championship appearance.
But there's also something else.
Josh Allen and Jackson are seen as the two favorites for the MVP award and will compete against each other for "bragging rights," as the pair can be considered the best quarterbacks in football for the 2024 season.
It has been built up as a Josh vs. Lamar game in Buffalo, but for No. 17, he has given his take on facing Jackson.
“I think in the history of football, I've never really played against another quarterback, I've played against their defense,” Allen said, arguing against the analysis that it's all about the QBs. “Just taking it one day at a time, trying to have a good week of practice and then controlling what I can control. It's attitude and effort and it's how we come out here and just try to put our best foot forward and try to execute on Sunday.”
That is true, but there is an element of both quarterbacks trying to outdo each other and while the MVP bragging rights are nice to have, even though the votes have already been cast, the looming carrot of making it to the AFC Championship game is what both really want.
So, while for fans of either team, it will be quarterback vs. quarterback in a titanic struggle with the season on the line, in truth, all both want is to score one more point than the opposing team and book a spot in the Championship game.
Is it really Josh vs. Lamar? We know that isn't the case, but that doesn't mean it isn't fun to pit them against each other.
