Myles Garrett Could Miss 6 Weeks

Myles Garrett’s tenure with the Los Angeles Rams did not get off to an ideal start as he missed most of training camp with an undisclosed knee issue.

Garrett thought he would be good to go in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers in Australia, but he clearly didn’t look like his usual self as he did not record a single stat in the loss. After returning to the States, Garrett underwent surgery to repair his injured right MCL and was placed on injured reserve.

That means he will miss at least four games, although it could be even longer, according to Ian Rapoport of ESPN and NFL Network:

Garrett, the subject of one of the NFL’s biggest blockbuster trades in recent memory, was given a timeline of roughly six weeks for his recovery from knee surgery, sources told NFL Network.

One thing that is for sure is the Rams will not rush Garrett back. They gave up a lot of draft capital, plus Jared Verse, to get him, believing the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year would be the missing piece to get them over the hump and win another Super Bowl.

All of that is still possible for Garrett and the Rams, but they will need him healthy for the second half of the regular season and postseason in order to make it happen. Because of that, they will proceed with caution and make sure the 30-year-old is 100% healthy before returning to game action.

In the meantime, the Rams will make do with a defensive line that still includes Aaron Donald, Kobie Turner, Byron Young, Braden Fiske and others.

Sean McVay: Myles Garrett is healing like Wolverine

Last week, Rams head coach Sean McVay provided a positive update on how Garrett is recovering since undergoing surgery on his injured knee.

“He’s feeling good,” McVay said. “… He had crutches yesterday, and then he was walking without crutches today, so he’s like Wolverine, healing fast. I’m reluctant to put a timeline on it. We’ve kind of talked about it, but we know that he’s going to miss those four weeks at a minimum, and we’re not going to rush him back. We want to make sure that he’s feeling good, (that) he’s able to get out on the practice field and do all the things that are necessary for him to perform at a level that he’s been accustomed to. And so that’ll be something that I’ll kind of keep you guys posted as we have updates as we go.”
