Myles Garrett Development Emerges Before NFL Trade Deadline

Myles Garrett’s name has dominated trade chatter this season as contenders and rebuilding clubs weighed bold moves before the NFL’s Tuesday trade deadline.

Reports linked Garrett to perennial suitors such as the Las Vegas Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs and most notably the Philadephia Eagles, while some executives discussed packages that would include multiple first-round picks and premium contracts.

Garrett’s public trade request in February, a later contract extension and visible frustration on the field fed speculation that Cleveland might flip him for a haul. Yet other analysts stressed Cleveland’s unwillingness to part with a franchise cornerstone despite interest around the league now.

“Cleveland star Myles Garrett is not getting traded. Teams have checked in, but as one high-ranking source texted: ‘He’s a Brown and will remain a Brown,’” NFL reporter Dianna Russini wrote on X about deadline chatter.

The blunt update from Russini ended a wave of late-breaking whispers but did not erase the background noise that produced them. Garrett opened the year as one of the league’s most disruptive pass rushers, with 10 sacks through eight games and a five-sack outing in last week's loss to the New England Patriots that underscored his individual value even as Cleveland struggles.

Garrett publicly requested a trade in February before agreeing to a new four-year, $160 million extension in March that carries more than $120 million in guarantees, a deal that binds him to Cleveland through the end of the decade and complicates trade logistics.

That sequence, public discontent, then a record extension, helps explain why the Browns appear reticent to move him even amid a losing stretch.
