It wasn’t long ago when Myles Garrett wanted out of the Browns. And although he stayed, the same question is being asked of him a year later.
In an interview, Camryn Justice and Garrett revisited his career so far and the explosive run he had in the 2025 season. The duo also discussed his ultimate dream: playing and winning a Super Bowl.
When Justice asked, “Would it mean more for these goals to happen here in Cleveland?” Garrett’s answer was yes.
“Would it mean more? Yeah. I mean, the team that drafted me, who put their hopes and aspirations into one person with the first pick, it does mean a lot. And I’m so glad and appreciative of the fact that they were willing to do that, to even make that selection,” the 30-year-old said.
The defensive star had a lot of firsts with the team. Garrett was drafted in 2018 and was the Browns’ first pick in the first round. He has since spent eight seasons with the franchise and won his two AP Defensive Player of the Year awards with the Browns. He set an NFL record for most sacks by a player in a season (23) and is noted as one of the best defensive players ever.
But these achievements are a stark contrast to the franchise’s overall performance. While the Garrett-led defensive unit is the best in the league, even above Super Bowl champions Seattle Seahawks, Garrett has been let down by the offense consistently.
This is why, early in 2025, he addressed the management and fans in an open letter asking to be traded.
After his letter caused a stir, Browns general manager, Andrew Berry, shot down his request and made it clear that Garrett is not going anywhere.
Now, after the 5-12 season, the franchise seems to have realized they are running out of time and roped in a new offensive-minded head coach and plan to strengthen the O-line. And Garrett was believed to be in the loop with the panel that picked Todd Monken.
As the franchise is undergoing many changes, Garrett stated that he is taking in one thing at a time and savoring his achievements.
“But, like I said, I just want to take it a day at a time as far as what’s happening with my offseason and going into next season. But I’m very, very proud of what I’ve been able to achieve here and the teammates and the team that we have,” he told Justice.
The Browns may have Garrett for a while, but they did lose out on the man responsible for the elite defense. Jim Schwartz, their former defensive coordinator, quit.
