Myles Garrett reacts to Micah Parsons’ contract situation with Dallas Cowboys

Myles Garrett made it very clear to the Cleveland Browns that he wanted to get paid this offseason. Cleveland eventually obliged, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. Garrett wants to see the Dallas Cowboys do the same for Micah Parsons.

Like Garrett before him, it’s Parsons’ turn to get paid. Garrett said the All-Pro pass rusher “should get every penny he’s owed.”

“I think he deserves whatever he’s earned,” Garrett told Abby Jones of DLLS Sports. “I mean, the guy is special. Once I got the chance to train with him, I’ve seen his work ethic, I’ve seen how he attacks the weights, running. He’s 100% committed to his craft and getting better every day, and [he’s] someone who produces on the field and has that dedication to the game. He should get every penny he’s owed.”

Parsons and the Cowboys have been talking about a contract extension throughout the spring. Last week, Parsons told team owner Jerry Jones to call his agent David Mulugheta and finalize the terms of a deal to make him the highest-paid defensive player in league history.

Garrett signed a four-year, $160 million deal with the Browns. His deal includes $123.5 million in guaranteed money. Parsons previously said he didn’t need to make $40 million a year. That, however, was before Garrett signed his record-breaking contract. He told Clarence Hill Jr. of DLLS that “it’s going to cost them [Cowboys] more” by continuing to wait.

Adam Schefter: Micah Parsons is ‘going to become the highest paid player in NFL history’

With training camp looming, ESPN‘s Adam Schefter reported some new details regarding Parsons’ future in Dallas, and where the two sides currently stand. It’s a matter of when, not if, Parsons gets his money, Schefter said.

“He’s going to become the highest paid player in National Football League history. The only question is when,” Schefter said on Get Up last Wednesday. “He said he’d like to have that deal done in the next month. There already have been extensive conversations.

“… At some point in time, Micah Parsons is going to have a deal that tops the one that went to Maxx Crosby, that tops the one that went to Myles Garrett and will give Dallas the highest paid defensive player in NFL history, to go along with the highest paid player in NFL history in Dak Prescott.”

Parsons remains the focal point of the Cowboys’ defense as he enters his fifth season in the league. The 2021 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, Parson has made the Pro Bowl each of his first four years and is a two-time First-Team All-Pro selection. He earned Second-Team All-Pro honors in 2023.
