Cleveland Browns EDGE rusher Myles Garrett did not hold back when making his first comments about new AFC North rival Aaron Rodgers, who is QB1 for the Pittsburgh Steelers this season.
"I think it's a good opportunity to put him in the graveyard," said Garrett to reporters on Rodgers' arrival to the division, a call back to his annual Halloween display where he shows all the quarterbacks he's sacked in the AFC North as skeletons in his yard. Creepy, but effective communication.
It was the biggest concern that could've possibly been the most underreported one regarding Rodgers headed to such a tough-nosed division - at 41 years old, it's hard to imagine him making it through an entire season healthy when facing off twice against pass rushers in Garrett and Trey Hendrickson, and against defenses like that of the Baltimore Ravens.
Regardless, he's made his choice. But, that doesn't mean that Detroit Lions fans can't laugh at the danger waiting for Rodgers, who decided to drag out this free agency process (again) and land with one of the weaker teams in the AFC North.
Garrett, who finished up second to Cincinnati Bengals pass rusher Hendrickson in total sacks in 2024, is set to have another big year for the Browns who are once again in a bit of a rebuild. Their defense, as per usual, is still great, so that's a threat to Rodgers and a Steelers offensive line that needs to contain him twice in a year.
Rodgers was such a menace in the NFC North, so it's nice to see him having departing the conference entirely. The Steelers do face off with the Lions once this year - at Ford Field in Week 16. So, the elder QB will be getting a nice break from the AFC's defenses with a bout against...Aidan Hutchinson and potentially Za'Darius Smith.
Rodgers is historically 18-8 against Detroit in his career, having really sliced and diced through the division in his days with the Green Bay Packers before departing for the New York Jets back in 2023. Of course, the Lions are in a far different spot as a franchise. They run the division more or less, and the Packers are the ones fighting to dethrone them - not the other way around.
