Najee Harris‘ agent Doug Hendrickson issued a statement about the fireworks incident. He said the Los Angeles Chargers running back, “was present at a 4th of July event where a fireworks mishap resulted in injuries to several attendees. Najee sustained a superficial eye injury during the incident, but is fully expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season,” per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
The Bay Area News Group first reported that Harris was injured in a Fourth of July Fireworks explosion. The incident happened in the early morning hours of July 5 in Antioch, California. Harris went to John Muir Hospital in Concord for treatment before later going to Stanford Hospital.
Antioch Police said the incident is still under investigation. “On July 5, at approximately 12:18 a.m., the Antioch Police Department dispatch center received multiple calls reporting an explosion on the 2200 block of Spanos Street,” the Facebook post read. “When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the aftermath of an explosion caused by fireworks.
“Antioch PD officers, ConFire, and AMR provided medical aid and triaged the patients. Several victims had already left the scene before the first responders’ arrival and were treated at local hospitals. Antioch PD is working to find and speak with all individuals involved regarding this incident. This is an unfortunate accident, and our thoughts are with the family and all those affected during this difficult time. We ask for patience and privacy for the families as the investigation continues.”

In March, Harris signed a one-year deal with the Chargers, and he explained why he wanted to play in Los Angeles. “Playing for [Jim] Harbaugh,” Harris said, per the Chargers’ official website.
“Watching him at the 49ers … I liked to see how he handled his team and what he did with that, you know? I kind of see similarities in this team, just their offensive guys and what they’re doing here. The type of team that they are … they’re on the rise to me.”.
