Najee Harris’ Los Angeles Chargers career is not off to the greatest start.

Harris was injured in a fireworks accident on July 5th, his agent disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday.

“Najee Harris was present at a 4th of July event where a fireworks mishap resulted in injuries to several attendees. Najee sustained a superficial eye injury during the incident, but is fully expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season,” Harris’ agent said.

Harris’ agent issued the statement after a report published by The Mercury News stated that Harris had been one of the attendees at a July 4th event where a fireworks accident injured those in attendance.

“This is an unfortunate accident, and our thoughts are with the family and all those affected during this difficult time. We ask for patience and privacy for the families as the investigation continues,” police in Antioch, Calif., wrote in a statement on July 5.

Police said some of the people who were injured were treated at the scene and hospitalized, while others drove to a hospital. Harris apparently went to two different hospitals.

Harris, 27, is entering his first season with the Chargers after signing with them in March. He can earn up to $9.25 million on his one-year deal. He is expected to share running back duties with Omarion Hampton, whom the Chargers selected with the No. 22 overall pick in April’s draft.

Harris spent the previous four seasons of his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He rushed for at least 1,000 yards in all four seasons, and peaked with 1,200 yards as a rookie in 2021. Only Troy Aikman wasn’t too impressed with the streak.
