The New York Giants recently made headlines when they signed veteran free agent running back Najee Harris to a contract ahead of the upcoming 2026 NFL season. Harris joins a Giants team that is looking to take a big step forward this year under newly minted head coach John Harbaugh.

Recently, Harris spoke on his motivation level heading into the upcoming season.

“I most definitely go into every year with a chip on my shoulder, but more so this yeay, because I have a lot to prove, coming back from a torn Achilles. Everything that I did in the past is in the past. Everything I do now is really what matters. I know there will be a lot of questions of how I’ll come back looking, and I’m ready to answer those,” he said, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.

As Harris referenced, he tore his Achilles last year as a member of the Los Angeles Chargers, ending his season prematurely and ultimately setting up free agency this year after a very brief stint in Los Angeles.

Harris previously had a strong tenure with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and will look to recapture that version of himself this year with New York. At the age of 28, and coming off one of the most devastating injuries a football player can suffer, there are understandably plenty of questions for Harris to answer this season.

The Giants’ signing of Harris is also important due to the injury history of Cam Skattebo, whose rookie season last year was cut short due to a gruesome injury, and whose violent running style has caused concerns about his availability moving forward.

The Giants’ new season is slated to get underway on September 13.
