Naming the most underrated player on the Pittsburgh Steelers roster heading into 2025 training camp

It's easy to forget a lot of the returning starters on the Pittsburgh Steelers roster when you have an offseason like they did

But amidst all the action and talent acquisition, the team quietly told you how they feel about a player on defense going into his second year.

I believe he's going to announce his presence loudly...

Why LB Payton Wilson is the most underrated player on the Steelers roster

Payton Wilson only started four games last year, yet that was enough for the Steelers to let Elandon Roberts walk in free agency and hand the car keys to Wilson alongside Patrick Queen.

It's a storyline that, in the middle of what was chaos for the past six months in Pittsburgh, has largely gone unnoticed. But the Steelers are putting a lot of stock into Wilson, and it's for good reason.

He might have a lingering injury history and is still green in his experience, but he is dynamic in between the hashes. As I said, only four starts under his belt, yet he still recorded nearly 80 tackles to go along with a forced fumble and an interception.

I wouldn't be shocked if we looked up after a full season of starts and saw Wilson as the team's leading tackler to go along with multiple turnovers on his resume.

Some players just have the big play gene, and Wilson is one of them.

Taking the offseason, his first true one in the NFL and suring up his coverage, becoming stronger and getting better at the nuances heading into year two should only solidify his case for being the most underrated player in Pittsburgh in 2025.

And if he is, and Wilson does take that next step, look out because a scary Steelers defense will be that much better in 2025.
