The Pittsburgh Steelers wasted no time this offseason when it came to overhauling their CB room.
Brandin Echols, Darius Slay, and most recently, Jalen Ramsey, all serve as critical additions to the room.
But the man who brings it all together, who the team needs to break out in year three, has been there all along.
The Steelers went into this offseason with the idea of getting back to being dominant on defense. It's why they acquired Slay and Ramsey at corner, used three of their first four picks in the front seven and are in the process of signing T.J. Watt.
But to truly be an elite defense, they need a lockdown corner. I'm not talking about a good corner, I'm talking about, 'Hey Joey, go guard Ja'Marr Chase or Tee Higgins and make Joe Burrow forget they exist.'
I think Porter Jr. is capable of that. He's got all the talent and measurables. He just has to be better in his technique. Less use of the hands, more confident in his feet and hips, and more experienced in his decision-making.

He didn't have the 2024 season that you would have expected after a stellar rookie campaign. Not only was he marred with penalties (who could forget his matchup with Tee Higgins and the Cincinnati Bengals), but he was worse in a variety of metrics (completion percentage allowed, passer rating allowed, miss tackle percentage) when comparing his rookie season to 2024.
That's where Jalen Ramsey and Darius Slay come in. Two Super Bowl champions that have compiled Hall of Fame resumes, Porter doesn't have to be the best corner in the room and know everything while still trying to figure things out like he did the past two years.
Because one thing is certain, the Steelers' only hope at winning in the postseason, much less making a deep run, relies on an elite defense. That requires one of their corners to be just that, and Porter Jr. can make it happen should he realize his potential.
