Nate Hobbs Making Early Impact in Green Bay

Training Camp Alignment

While Hobbs primarily played in the slot during his time in Las Vegas, he has been lining up all over the field in the early days of training camp. As a versatile player, Hobbs has split time between the nickel and outside cornerback positions. 

When positioned on the outside, Keisean Nixon lined up opposite of him, with second-year safety Javon Bullard playing in the slot. Conversely, when Hobbs lined up in the slot, Carrington Valentine and Nixon took the outside spots.

One of the key reasons the Packers pursued Hobbs was due to his aggressiveness and his distinctive desire to be near the ball at all times.

Aggressiveness Shown in Training Camp

While the Green Bay coaching staff appreciates Hobbs’ edge, his aggressiveness may have crossed a line during training camp.

On Sunday, Hobbs collided with wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks while going for the ball, leaving him down on the field. The team was not in pads that day, and Wicks was slow to get up. 

Then on Monday, with the pads on, Hobbs again pushed the limit.

On a toss play to running back MarShawn Lloyd, he delivered a low hit to Lloyd’s leg, causing him to walk off the field gingerly. Hobbs remained on the sidelines shortly after, but eventually returned to practice later in the session. 

Hobbs Will Be an Important Part of the Defense

Hobbs is expected to play a key role in Jeff Hafley’s defense this season. With Alexander no longer on the roster, the Packers’ cornerback room still looks promising. Hobbs’ flexibility to line up both outside and in the slot adds valuable depth at two positions.

His play style reflects swagger and toughness—qualities every NFL team covets in today’s game. As we’ve seen in training camp, Hobbs will need to find the right balance between intensity and control when going up against teammates. That said, his energy and edge remain valuable assets.

If Hobbs can continue to learn and grow within Green Bay’s system, he has the potential to evolve into a cornerstone of the Packers’ defense.
