The wait continues for the Miami Dolphins and cornerback Jalen Ramsey, as the extended divorce between the parties that was revealed in April remains unfinalized through the team's mandatory minicamp.
Naturally, the eventual trade compensation and destination have been debated, with a number of playoff contenders having been mentioned, including the Pittsburgh Steelers and Ramsey's old team in the Los Angeles Rams.
However, one CBS Sports NFL analyst sees another team in the mix, and it's one that's had a major makeover over the offseason. Cody Benjamin predicts the Las Vegas Raiders to come in and secure the former All-Pro.
This is what Benjamin had to say about Ramsey and the Raiders:
"Just one year after landing a $74 million extension from the Miami Dolphins, Ramsey is fully anticipating a breakup as his AFC East squad rebuilds its defense. The seven-time Pro Bowler will likely fetch little more than a mid- to late-round draft pick in a trade given his age (30) and financial demands, but his wealth of both experience and attitude will convince someone to slot him in as a "missing piece" for 2025. A reunion with the Los Angeles Rams makes the most sense from a title-chasing perspective, but if it's compensation that ultimately seals the deal here, a move to Sin City feels right up Ramsey's alley; the Las Vegas Raiders are flush with salary cap space, and coach Pete Carroll is all about physical defense.
Prediction: Traded to Las Vegas Raiders for a 2026 fifth-round pick"
The Dolphins, less than a year after giving him a raise, have been trying to do right by Ramsey in this deal, and it would behoove them to, as they don't want to develop a reputation for dumping free agents they sign in bad destinations absent a compelling reason (high draft pick) to do so. As such, much of a move like this would depend on some level of willingness by Ramsey to go to the Silver and Black.
However, the Raiders have made themselves a more interesting team since the season ended. Among several moves, they added Pete Carroll as their head coach, traded for QB Geno Smith, and drafted Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty. They have the salary cap to absorb his contract - fifth most in the NFL at $36.2 million, per OverTheCap.com. And hey, life in Sin City isn't going to be boring, right?
We'll see in the coming weeks if the Dolphins and Ramsey can finalize their split - and if that means the latter is heading out west once again.
