National media outlet names biggest lesson learned about Buffalo Bills this offseason
Jamie Germano / USA TODAY NETWORK

We're still in the thick of the offseason, but CBS Sports thinks enough time has passed since the new league year started in March that some things have been learned about each NFL franchise.

When it comes to the Buffalo Bills, CBS Sports feels like it learned that the AFC East franchise is moving forward with the same roster-building approach as the Kansas City Chiefs.

From CBS Sports: They're (Buffalo) following the Chiefs model of roster construction. In other words, spread out the money from a pricy No. 1 wideout -- in this case, Stefon Diggs -- and let your MVP-level quarterback elevate the moving parts around him. If Josh Allen is healthy, they'll remain contenders in the AFC.

That certainly feels like an accurate observation, though it's not exactly groundbreaking. One secret to winning a Super Bowl in the NFL is to make it happen when your quarterback is still on his rookie contract.

If that doesn't work, and the team has a franchise quarterback that it believes in (as the Bills do with Josh Allen), then the next approach is to pay your quarterback and then hope to hit on some budget wide receivers (via either free agency or the draft). The rest of the money then gets invested in the offensive line and the defense.

It's worked out well for the Chiefs so far. But for it to work out for the Bills, Allen is going to have to beat Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs -- something the Buffalo signal caller hasn't been able to do yet (Allen is 0-3 against the Chiefs in the playoffs).
