Will the New York Giants select a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft?
That's one of the biggest questions that everyone is trying to answer ahead of the start of the draft, and opinions are all over the place on what the Giants will actually do.
New York signed free agent quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston earlier this offseason, making it less likely that the franchise will target a quarterback with the No. 3 overall selection.
Neither of those quarterbacks, however, are a longterm solution for the Giants. So it's possible, if not likely, that New York will select a quarterback at some point in the 2025 NFL Draft. The question is "when" will the Giants select a quarterback.
CBS Sports thinks the answer is the fifth round, as they have the Giants selecting Notre Dame Fighting Irish quarterback Riley Leonard with the No. 154 overall pick.
From CBS Sports: With Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston on the roster, the Giants have put themselves in a spot where they don't need to take a QB early in the draft, which is why we have them waiting until the fifth round to grab Leonard. Brian Daboll has a creative offensive mind and getting a mobile QB like Leonard would give the Giants something they don't have at QB right now (Wilson has lost mobility with age and Winston might be one of the three most immobile quarterbacks in the NFL).
Leonard, 6-foot-4/216 lbs, is an athletic quarterback who started his career at Duke before landing at Notre Dame.
Despite leading Notre Dame to the national championship game this past season, Leonard isn't expected to be an early round selection. That's mostly due to concerns about his accuracy.
Outside of the accuracy concerns, however, Leonard appears to be the type of prospect that would appeal to Giants head coach Brian Daboll. Leonard is tough, he plays with an edge, and he's a natural leader. Taking a flier on Leonard in the fifth round, with the idea that his accuracy issues can be solved via some mechanical tweaks, wouldn't be a bad idea for the Giants -- especially since the young quarterback wouldn't be thrown into a situation where he's relied on immediately as a starter in the NFL.
