The Texas Tech Red Raiders are asserting themselves as a true competitor on the recruiting trail. Jalen Brewster helped prove that on Saturday night.
"BREAKING: Five-Star DL Jalen Brewster has Committed to Texas Tech, he tells me for @rivals," national recruiting/transfer portal reporter Hayes Fawcett wrote on X. "The 6'3 300 DL from Cedar Hill, TX chose the Red Raiders over Ohio State & Indiana. He's ranked as the No. 1 DL in 2027 on all websites."
247Sports scouting analyst Gabe Brooks wrote in a scouting report last month that Brewster combines strength and an explosive nature with a mix of size and athleticism.
"May prove more of a disrupter than gap-minder," Brooks said. "Junior season shows consistent penetrating ability, including rush threat from 3-tech and 4i alignments."
By pledging to join Joey McGuire's Red Raiders, Brewster inserts himself into a Texas Tech class that includes 247Sports five-star edge rusher LaDamion Guyton and four-star defensive lineman K'Adrian Redmond. Those three will follow 2026 five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo to Lubbock.
Billionaire booster Cody Campbell, who leads The Matador Club NIL collective, helped the Red Raiders bring in one of the best transfer portal classes in the country this past offseason, spending more than $10 million to put it together.
"We started hitting home run after home run," McGuire said.
Brewster's father, Robert Brewster, was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He was a two-time All-MAC offensive line selection at Ball State.
