The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a tough loss early against the Houston Texans on “Sunday Night Football” on NBC. This was after offensive lineman Wanya Morris suffered a gruesome knee injury on the first play of the highly anticipated matchup. Morris was forced to exit the game after what appears to be a serious and potentially season-ending injury.

Morris marked his first start of the season on Sunday after Jawaan Taylor was ruled out for the game. Taylor’s injury forced Jaylon Moore to right tackle, which opened the left tackle spot for Morris.

The 25-year-old’s first start in 2025 ended in disaster, though. Morris appeared to have hyperextended his knee in an awful way, prompting NBC to make a decision during the live broadcast.

Patrick Mahomes was seen on his knees after the incident. The Chiefs quarterback prayed for his teammate on the field, which further underscored the severity of the injury. The emotions were already high in this game, and the unfortunate turn of events placed everyone on edge even more.

Morris suffered the injury in literally the first snap of the game. Morris immediately fell to the ground, grabbing his left knee. It was clear that he was in significant pain, which prompted the Chiefs' medical team to check on him on the field.

There was a significant delay in the game because of the incident. The Chiefs eventually helped Morris off the field, but it took them a few minutes to do so. Throughout the delay, NBC showed the players' reactions from both teams. The network decided not to show the replay during the live broadcast due to the gruesome nature of the injury. NBC’s play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico said on the broadcast that the injury “wasn’t pleasant.”

This is a tough blow for the Chiefs’ already depleted offensive line. Morris is no star, but his early exit has added to Kansas City’s injury woes during this crucial stretch of the season.

Sunday is a must-win game for the Chiefs. They entered the Texans game with a 35% chance of making the playoffs, and a loss would be a substantial blow to their postseason hopes. At this point, Kansas City needs to win all four of its remaining games, starting with the Texans on Sunday night.
