Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys followed up an overtime tie with a win in Week 5, taking down Justin Fields and the New York Jets 37-22, jumping to 2-2-1 to begin the 2025 NFL season. Prescott had one of his best games of the year, completing 18-of-29 passes for 237 yards and four touchdowns. And he did it with George Pickens as his top receiver, as CeeDee Lamb was out with an ankle sprain.
Prescott was also without his speedster, KaVontae Turpin, who was sidelined after suffering a foot sprain in Week 4 against the Green Bay Packers. The fourth-year receiver has been an important piece to the Cowboys' offense, with 11 catches for 159 yards and a touchdown, to go with 23 yards on the ground.
Leading up to the Week 6 matchup against the Carolina Panthers, Turpin had not been able to practice, still recovering from injury. But when asked if he anticipates any players coming back against Carolina, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones suggested Turpin could play.
"Yes, and we'll probably and should be a little cautious as to how we say this because we need to see them work earlier," Jones said. "But we got our fingers crossed on Turpin."
However, on Saturday, despite Jones' hopes he could return, Turpin was ruled out for the second straight game, leaving Prescott without his speedster, and Lamb, once again. Starting guard Tyler Smith was also listed as questionable, while running back Miles Sanders was ruled out for the rest of the season, leaving Prescott without another key piece.
