New England Patriots CB #19 Ready To Contribute
Joe Rondone/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK

New England Patriots defense received a bolstering acquisition to their secondary on Thursday. In his first full day as a member of the New England Patriots, while speaking with reporters, the latest acquisition was nothing but excited.

New England Patriots New Cornerback

Marco Wilson spoke with reporters in front of his locker during his first full day as a member of the New England Patriots. With some outside voices criticizing how players are treated under Coach Bill Belichick, and a few former players (though small in number) not happy with their time spent in Foxboro, it appears that Wilson knows exactly what he is signing up for, and is excited to be a part of it.

I was excited, I was so happy it was one of the best things to happen to me in my entire life.  I just knew what type of coaches i was going to I knew what type of organization I was going to and the history. You know, that’s exactly what I’ve been looking for in my life in the NFL.

This statement bodes well for the New England Patriots newcomer. Watching him interact with reporters, this statement comes with appreciation of being able to join this historic franchise, while knowing the work ahead.

Prior To Joining the New England Patriots

Marco Wilson was a fourth round draft pick for the Arizona Cardinals after spending four years in college with the Florida Gators.

It is known how much turmoil, and mismanagement has gone in at the Arizona Cardinals organization. Despite being a starter, and having a large role in their defense, the team elected to waive him, only to be picked up days later by the New England Patriots.

On social media he expressed what it meant to him:

Got picked up by the best organization in the league. God is good you should talk to him more.

Despite having three years with the Cardinals, Wison was on pace to have his best statistical year, with 52 tackles after only 11 games. He did not see a snap on defense, after the close loss against the Houston Texans. Although even after his benching and eventual release, the Cardinals still have not found much success on either side of the ball, as they maintain a hold on last place in the NFC West, with three total wins.

Some are speculating that the move away from Wilson was in fact a way for the new regime to indicate their new hold of the team, as he was the latest general manger Steve Keim pick that the organization has decided to move on from.

New England Patriots Fit

In many ways he is the exact type of player that coach Belichick is looking for. His talent and skillset are undeniable.

While he may have been picked on in coverage as a Cardinal, and had the infamous shoe incident as a Florida Gator, if coach Belichick can tap into his potential, Wilson will be seen as another player that was able to revitalize their career, after being discarded by a prior NFL organization.
