The New England Patriots suffered a medical scare during this Monday's practice.
According to multiple reports, Patriots defensive coordinator Terrell Williams had to leave practice early because he collapsed on the sideline. Trainers rushed over to treat him for dehydration.
Even though a stretcher was brought out for Williams, he was able to get up under his own power. Since he couldn't finish the rest of practice, inside linebackers coach Zak Kuhr took over as the defensive play-caller.
As of now, it's unclear if Williams will miss New England's upcoming practice sessions. His status for the team's preseason opener on Friday is also up in the air.
Williams was away from the Patriots during rookie minicamp because of a medical condition.
"I want to make it clear that I’m away from the building, but I’m not away from the team. I’m doing good. I’m not away from the football team," Williams said. "I came back home here to Detroit, for spring break, and had a little medical scare. I mean, it wasn’t a little medical scare. It was a medical scare. Since then, per doctor’s orders, I’ve kind of stayed here, in Detroit, and been handling that."
Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald is reporting that Williams' latest health scare has nothing to do with his absence from the spring.
Hopefully, Williams will be at full strength for the start of the season. The Patriots will take on the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 1.
