The New England Patriots selected Offensive Tackle Will Campbell with the No. 4 overall pick. He is coming off a solid collegiate career with the LSU Tigers. He was an All-American in 2024 and was the SEC’s Jacobs Blocking Trophy winner. That award is given to the best blocker in each conference. Will he be the cornerstone lineman the Patriots are expecting him to be?
Campbell is a great pick for the team. He is the first pick of the Mike Vrabel era in New England. Campbell will fill an obvious hole for the team. According to Pro Football Network, New England had the 30th-ranked offensive line in 2024.
New England is solidifying its offensive line to protect franchise Quarterback Drake Maye. The Patriots surrendered the fifth-most sacks during the regular season. The team has many holes to fill in this year’s NFL Draft. They must provide Maye with another offseason weapon or two over the next few days. There was some discussion they would trade down to amass a boatload of picks to improve the roster. They did not take that route. Instead, they opted for a blue-chip prospect.
The only issue surrounding Campbell this draft season was the length of his arms. New England did not view that as a big issue. He will be tasked with protecting Maye for years to come as the New England Patriots look to get back on a winning trajectory.
