New England Patriots Release CB Jack Jones
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Per his agent, J. Tooson, the New England Patriots will release talented-but-troubled cornerback Jack Jones. The 25-year-old was in the midst of his second season with the Patriots after joining the team as a fourth-round pick in the 2022 draft.

"Certainly we want to thank the Patriot Organization for drafting Jack," Tooson said in a statement obtained by Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. "Jack is an immense talent and looks forward to making an immediate contribution on his next team as soon as Sunday."

Jones played just 10 snaps in the Patriots' latest loss, a 10-6 slog against the Indianapolis Colts in Frankfurt on Sunday. In New England lore, Jones' finest hour was his Pick Six of Aaron Rodgers in his first NFL start in Green Bay in 2022.

The departure of Jones is perhaps the latest subplot in the Patriots' ongoing drama, one that left J.C. Jackson behind in America before they left for Germany. Jones' second season was an eventful one befallen by injuries as legal issues. In the latter category, he was arrested over the offseason for carrying a gun in Logan Airport but the charges were eventually dropped.

Jones recently missed a team curfew and the last two weeks has been visibly disengaged from coaches and teammates on New England's sideline.

Veteran cornerback Jabrill Peppers said he planned to the Patriots' upcoming Bye week to check in with Jones from a mental standpoint.

"I’ve got a very good relationship with him. I’m going to go talk to him, see where his head’s at," Peppers said after Sunday's loss, per Chris Mason of MassLive.com. "We’ve got a bye week coming up. Chill out and refresh, reload, and come back ready to go to New York.”

The Patriots return to action on Nov. 26 against the New York Giants.
