New Lions’ CB Carlton Davis Doesn’t Hold Back On Team’s Future
Kim Klement Neitzel-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions recently acquired cornerback Carlton Davis in a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Davis didn’t hide his excitement during his introductory press conference on Thursday.

First, Davis stressed what he would bring to the table in Detroit.

“Man, you about to get a lockdown corner,” Davis said, via Justin Rogers of The Detroit News. “You’re about to have one side just, like, unavailable. That’s what I do. I’m here to take [away] the No. 1 receiver on these teams. I’m here to deny the ball; I’m here to take the ball away.”

Davis then went on to wax about the positive trajectory of the Lions and thinks that the team will be a force to be reckoned with for many years.

“This is a great organization that’s trending upward,” Davis said. “I would love to be a part of a dynasty where we can go and win multiple championships over the next couple years, man. That’s one of my goals, is to create something that is kind of like the Lakers, kind of like what all the dynasties did back in the day, Chicago Bulls. I think they have a nice young roster, great coaching staff, great culture here to do it, honestly.”

These very same Lions defeated Davis and the Buccaneers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs this past season, so Davis has experienced how good Detroit is first hand.

The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Auburn, was selected by Tampa Bay in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

He had been a fixture in the Bucs’ secondary ever since, most recently registering 52 tackles, a couple of interceptions and nine passes defended in 12 games in 2023.

Davis has had some difficulty staying on the field, however, as he has never played a full season and topped out at 14 contests in 2019 and 2020.

The Lions are obviously hoping Carlton Davis is considerably more durable in the Motor City.
