The NFL Draft is only six weeks away and the draft strategy for the Minnesota Vikings is starting to come into form.
After the first wave of free agency, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has setup the Vikings to be in a great spot. They don't have to force anything when it comes to the NFL Draft and can prioritize best player available.
Even so, there are still needs on the team that Adofo-Mensah can address when it comes to the NFL Draft, but not having to force anything is going to be huge.
It will be interesting to see how things change for the Vikings when it comes to the NFL Draft, something I will be tracking with my mock draft roundup each week. NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah released his latest mock draft with the Vikings taking a safety in South Carolina's Nick Emmanwori.
With Harrison Smith entering Year 14, the Vikings go get a young safety with the ability to impact the game in a variety of ways.
Safety is a position of need with how the Vikings like to utilize three safety looks and the future of Harrison Smith is uncertain at best. They need depth now and someone to step into a starting role either next year or the year after.
I wrote a scouting report on Emmanwori and think he would be a perfect prospect for Brian Flores' defense.
Emmanwori is the prototype of versatile safeties. He can fly across the field as a deep safety and in the box as a blitzer and run defender. He's especially good when it comes to attacking the football in the air.
The Vikings current safety room doesn't have a player like Emmanwori. Camryn Bynum is a good player, but he doesn't have the range to be a game-changer. That is what Emmanwori can do for the Vikings.
When I wrote it, Bynum was still a member of the Vikings, but if you substitute Theo Jackson in there, it tracks the same way. Emmanwori can be an elite-level joker for Flores and it would be a true difference-maker.
