New NFL Sunday Ticket partnership drives up cost for fans

It seemed to be a yearly tradition for many NFL fans. If one of your buddies had DirecTV, everyone in the group would pony up the money to add on NFL Sunday Ticket in exchange for a place to watch every NFL game every weekend.

It was truly bliss and the Sunday Ticket/DirecTV partnership was very lucrative for a very long time. It made a lot of football fans happy.

That partnership dissolved this past offseason, though a new one between the NFL and YouTube TV has replaced it. There's also a new feature for the group of fans who want NFL Sunday Ticket, but don't necessarily feel a YouTube TV subscription sans the NFL has anything to offer them.

Though be warned, it is going to be expensive. It will be even more expensive if you're a fan of the RedZone broadcast, especially if you're a procrastinator.

Deadspin has details on the new packages for NFL Sunday Ticket.

Those already with YouTube TV can purchase Sunday Ticket for the additional cost of $249 a season. If the purchase is after June 6, though, the cost will be upped by $100 dollars.

RedZone and Scott Hanson's "octobox" is no longer included in the package, but it can be added for $40 more.

There's also a pretty slick a la carte package that will allow people who don't want YouTube TV to still purchase Sunday Ticket, but it will cost $349. That cost, of course, will balloon up to $389 with the addition of Red Zone and you can go ahead and tack on an extra $100 if the decision is made after June 6.

Keep in mind, when Sunday Ticket debuted in 1994, the cost of adding the package to an already existing DirecTV package was just $99 (or $139 if the purchase was made after Aug. 15).
