There is a mystery ravaging the New Orleans Saints defense, and fans are taking notice since it involves a proven player who just got paid this offseason.

Pass rusher Chase Young is still dealing with a calf injury that only seems to linger. When will it go away? Can he return soon? No one really knows yet, but there was an unfortunate update on Friday for the Saints and the veteran edge rusher.

Chase Young remains out with injury versus Bills

The Saints have ruled out pass rusher Chase Young for Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills. Young, who signed a new contract during the offseason, has not suited up so far this season due to a calf injury. Missing this much time did not seem like a potential outcome for the veteran pass rusher, based on his answer about the injury ahead of Week 1.

"Young said, “hell no,” when asked if the calf injury is a long-term concern – via Nick Underhill. He believes that he’ll be good soon. It is not clear when soon will be, but his strong tone signals that he doesn’t think he will miss much time at all for New Orleans." -- A to Z Sports

This is a frustrating situation for the Saints and Young. The experienced defender certainly wants to return, but he hasn't even been able to log practice time due to his ailment.

The Saints pass rush has been near the bottom of the league through the first three weeks of the season, and they are clearly lacking some upside off the edge. Young would provide that and a bit of stability to the unit, but he's simply been unavailable.

Not to mention, Young signed a new, three-year extension with New Orleans this offseason. the contract will keep him with the team through 2027, but so far, it's a contract decision that has been extremely disappointing. Many fans are questioning the choice by New Orleans' front office, which has become a theme over the past couple of years, especially.

New Orleans also ruled out offensive lineman Dillon Radunz for Week 4. Wide receiver Devaughn Vele is questionable. Offensive tackle Taliese Fuaga was taken off the injury report and is good to go against the Bills after missing last week.
