New Orleans Saints Receive Shocking Quarterback Prediction For 2024
Kim Klement Neitzel-USA TODAY Sports

As the New Orleans Saints prepare for the upcoming 2024 NFL season, there are many who are watching quarterback Derek Carr closely. Some believe that his tenure with the franchise could come to an end if he fails to produce a big season and take the team back to the playoffs.

Carr was signed a big contract in free agency last offseason by the Saints after parting ways with the Las Vegas Raiders. New Orleans thought he would be able to revitalize his career and get back to being the potential MVP candidate that he had been a few years previously. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

That’s not to say that Carr had a bad season. He played in all 17 games, although he did deal with quite a few injury issues, and completed 68.4 percent of his pass attempts for 3,878 yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

Those numbers don’t look bad on paper, but they were relatively empty statistics. Carr did not make much of an impact on the season as whole for the Saints.

With that in mind, one NFL analyst believes that the Saints could make a shocking move at the quarterback position during the 2024 campaign.

New Orleans Saints Receive Shocking Quarterback Prediction For 2024

NFL analyst Emory Hunt recently spoke out about the situation that the Saints are facing. He thinks that head coach Dennis Allen could turn to rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler at some point during the season.

“I liked him better than Bo Nix and JJ McCarthy…better put Rattler in and save your job…”

Rattler was selected with the No. 150 overall pick in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. It was a move that was long overdue. The former South Carolina Gamecocks star slipped much farther in the draft than most analysts expected and projected.

Despite the slip that he suffered in the draft, Rattler is ready to prove his doubters wrong. A couple of years back, he was viewed as a potential No. 1 overall pick candidate. Obviously, he was unable to live up to that hype, but his arm talent is big and it’s real.

During the 2023 college football season with South Carolina, Rattler completed 68.9 percent of his passes for 3,186 yards, 19 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He also scored four rushing touchdowns.

While there is a lot of raw talent that he’ll need to develop over the next few years, Rattler does have legitimate talent to be an NFL starting quarterback.

It will be interesting to see how Carr starts off the 2024 season. Should he come out of the gates slow, it would not be shocking to see Allen consider making a move at quarterback. Allen is firmly on the hot seat as well.

Expect to see Spencer Rattler turn some heads during training camp and preseason action. His talent is impressive and it will be intriguing to see if he finds himself on the field at some point this year.
