New York Giants Actively Looking To Move Up In 2024 NFL Draft
Chris Pedota / USA TODAY NETWORK

The New York Giants entered the 2024 NFL offseason with a few major question marks on their roster. The biggest among them is what the team was going to do at the quarterback position with Daniel Jones.

Jones, who signed a four-year, $160 million deal during the 2023 NFL offseason, was a disaster for New York. He was unable to stay healthy, but even when he was on the field, he didn’t produce. The Giants offense operated better with veteran backup Tyrod Taylor and undrafted rookie free agent Tommy DeVito running the show.

Already in this offseason, we have seen some changes made. The Giants saw Taylor sign a deal with the New York Jets as a free agent and brought in Drew Lock, formerly of the Seattle Seahawks, to replace him.

Jones and DeVito remain on the roster, but many people don’t believe that DeVito will be around once the regular season begins. Jones isn’t going anywhere because of his contract, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he will be the starter.

There is zero incentive for the Giants to play Jones. His contract beyond 2024 is only guaranteed for injury, meaning if he can pass a physical during the 2025 offseason, the Giants can release him and save a boatload of money.

Also, rumors are swirling that the Giants are looking to actively move up in the 2024 NFL Draft. The belief, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, is that Big Blue is looking to get into range for North Carolina quarterback, Drake Maye.

Some NFL Draft analysts believe that the first four picks of the draft could be quarterbacks. Caleb Williams seems like a lock to go first overall to the Chicago Bears, followed by some combination of Jayden Daniels, Maye and J.J. McCarthy.

Expect the Giants to work the phones with the New England Patriots, who own the No. 3 overall pick, and the Arizona Cardinals, who own No. 4. If Maye gets past the Washington Commanders at No. 2, the Giants will be aggressively looking to move up and get their guy.
