The New York Giants are 22-45-1 under general manager Joe Schoen.
They made the playoffs in his first year on the job, but they haven't sniffed them since.
Things got so bad in New York that the head coach he first hired, Brian Daboll, was fired in the middle of last season. Yet, the Giants trusted Schoen to find their next head coach, and he hired longtime Baltimore Ravens head man John Harbaugh.
The Ravens had fired Harbaugh after 18 seasons. He became known more for mediocrity than anything as of late, but he did lead Baltimore to a win in Super Bowl XLVII.
New York was more than happy to bring Harbaugh in to mentor a young and somewhat exciting roster, and now the Giants are going to pair him with Schoen for the foreseeable future.
On Thursday, the Giants gave their general manager a multiyear contract extension.
According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Schoen's ability to work alongside Harbaugh was a driving factor in this extension.

"We were able to get on the same page right off the bat in terms of what we were looking for, in terms of team building, trying to find the right type of guys that fit our scheme and our system," Schoen said earlier this week of his relationship with New York's new coach. "We were aligned from Day 1. So, it's been great. It has been a really good offseason for us."
From Elkhart, Indiana, Schoen, 46, spent five seasons as the assistant general manager under Brandon Beane with the Buffalo Bills before he was hired by the Giants.
No, the record hasn't been good under his watch, but he has pulled the strings that have made the Giants an interesting team heading into the 2026 season.
Landing Harbaugh is a big part of that, but let's not forget that he selected quarterback Jaxson Dart with the 25th pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Finding a franchise quarterback is hard, and the Giants feel they have one of those in Dart. As a rookie, he threw for 2,272 yards and 15 touchdowns compared to five interceptions.
A franchise quarterback needs a No. 1 wide receiver to really win ball games in today's NFL, and Schoen selected Malik Nabers out of LSU with pick No. 6 in 2024.
Nabers was injured for much of the 2025 season, but he caught 109 passes for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie — and that was with Daniel Jones, Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito under center.
In this past draft, the Giants had two top- 10 picks, which netted them linebacker Arvell Reese and offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa.
There is optimism about the future of this Giants organization. Yes, Schoen has had his missteps, but he's also put them in this position.
As such, his extension is well worth it for New York. At the very least, he's now got a chance to figure it out with one of the best head coaches in NFL history.
