The New York Giants are heading into training camp as the 2025 NFL season edges closer. There have been many questions surrounding the New York Giants quarterback room. During the offseason, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll brought in free agent Jameis Winston, Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart during the 2025 NFL Draft.
Russell Wilson previously spent one season with the Pittsburgh Steelers last year. Coming into 2025, Wilson signed a one-year contract worth $10.5 million. Despite the fact that Daboll also brought on another veteran signal caller, the Giants’ head coach has reaffirmed that Russell Wilson will be the starting quarterback for the Giants in 2025.

Russell Wilson is seen as the vocal leader of the New York Giants offense, particularly during the offseason and in workouts. Last season, Wilson racked up 2,482 yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions on the year. Unfortunately, the Steelers missed the playoffs in 2024 while Wilson was sidelined periodically with injuries before they made it to the AFC Wildcard Round.
The uncertainty for the New York Giants starting quarterback is if he will play after the upcoming season. Wilson is 37-years old, and has played on several teams throughout his football career. The 2025 schedule for the New York Giants looks to be a tough and very competitive one. There first three opponents consist of the Washington Commanders, Dallas Cowboys, and Kansas City Chiefs to start out the regular season.
However, Wilson has experience in playing against teams in the NFC since he played with the Seattle Seahawks for the bulk of his career. If the veteran quarterback can remain healthy, they have a chance to be successful in 2025. After a horrendous 3-14 record in 2024, head coach Brian Daboll is looking to rejuvenate the offense.
Daboll put all of the questions regarding a signal caller to rest by stating,” These guys will be out here competing but Russ is our starter,” Daboll said, per ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.
The 2025 NFL season will bring tons of optimism and anticipation after the outcome of 2024 and the quarterback struggles that it presented. If Wilson can bring his teammates together and build a good chemistry, it is an unknown mystery as to what may take place with a new quarterback under center, but with veteran leadership, anything can happen.
