The New York Giants came into their Thursday Night Football showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles to kick off Week 6 as major underdogs. Very few were giving them a chance to knock off the defending champions, who were looking to get back on track after a tough Week 5 loss against the Denver Broncos.
Despite being major underdogs, the Giants found a way to come out on top.
Led by Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo, New York was able to pull out a hard-fought 34-17 win. Not only did the Giants beat the Eagles, but they were able to dominate the game. It was as big of a win as the team has had in quite some time.
Unfortunately, New York can only look back at its losses to the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints and wonder what could have been. Both of those games were winnable for the Giants, but they came up short.
Following the big win over Philadelphia, New York took to social media to roast the Eagles.
“Bye Eagles Bye,” the caption of the post read.
With Dart as the team’s starting quarterback, the Giants have now gone 2-1. There is a breath of fresh air surrounding the franchise and a new sense of optimism with the infusion of young talent that has been on the field.
Against Philadelphia, Dart ended up completing 17 of his 25 pass attempts for 195 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions. He also ran for 58 yards and a score on 13 carries.
Skattebo, on the other hand, dominated the Eagles’ defense on the ground. He racked up 98 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries. The rookie running back also chipped in two catches for 12 yards.
Obviously, the excitement is warranted by New York just 2-4 on the season. There is a lot of work to be done if the Giants want to have a chance to work their way back into Wild Card contention. However, beating Philadelphia is a great place to start.
Next up for New York will be a Week 7 matchup on the road against the Denver Broncos. That will be another big-time test and it will be interesting to see if the Giants can start a winning streak by beating another playoff caliber team.
