New York Giants Linked to Surprising Quarterback Trade During Training Camp

The New York Giants are full steam ahead with NFL training camp beginning. After heading into the offseason with a need at the quarterback position, the Giants are in a good place from that perspective.

Right now, the starting quarterback is Russell Wilson. He chose New York over other potential suitors during NFL free agency. Behind him, the Giants have both Jameis Winston and Jaxson Dart on the depth chart.

Dart is expected to be the long-term face of the franchise in New York. However, the Giants want to bring him along slowly and avoid throwing him into the fire too early.

That being said, carrying all three quarterbacks into the regular season might not be the direction New York chooses to go.

With that being said, Winston has been name a potential trade candidate.

Pro Football Focus analyst Bradley Locker has named Winston as one of the top NFL trade candidates during training camp.

"The Giants are likely to start either Russell Wilson or first-round pick Jaxson Dart, leaving Winston as the team’s presumptive QB3," Locker wrote. "New York could keep the former first overall pick in that role, but Winston figures to be most teams’ top trade target when a quarterback injury inevitably happens."

If the Giants can get a decent return from a draft capital perspective for Winston, they should jump at the opportunity. He's not a long-term fit for the team and Dart is more than capable of being the primary backup behind Wilson.

Last season with the Cleveland Browns, Winston played in 12 games. He completed 61.1% of his pass attempts for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

When another team suffered an injury to their starting or primary backup quarterback, Winston could very well be a name of interest.
