New York Giants QB Daniel Jones Provides Massive Injury Update For 2024
Chris Pedota / USA TODAY NETWORK

The New York Giants surprisingly opted not to make any big moves at the quarterback position this offseason. Despite many thinking they would try to trade up in the 2024 NFL Draft for one of the top young quarterbacks, they opted to take Malik Nabers in the first round.

Instead, the only quarterback that the Giants brought in to compete with Daniel Jones was Drew Lock. There has been some buzz that Lock could end up winning the starting job, but the Giants clearly wanted to give Jones another chance to prove that he can be their starter.

After giving him a massive new contract, the Giants are relatively locked in with Jones for now. While it was a mistake to give him so much money, they are still hopeful that he can figure things out. All of that will start with his injury status and recovery from the torn ACL that ended his 2023 season way early.

Thankfully, it appears that things are progressing well for the New York Giants’ quarterback.

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones Provides Massive Injury Update

During a recent press conference, Jones gave an update about himself and his recovery from the brutal injury. It seems that things are going well for him in his rehab.

“I would say about where I hoped to be. I think we’ve done a good job of adjusting the schedule based on what I’m able to do, and every week, I’m able to do a little bit more so the schedule can change or progress kind of as I’m progressing, which I think has been the right way to do it. I feel good and think I’m in a good spot.”

At the very least, the New York Giants are hoping to get a strong look at Jones during training camp and preseason action. He’ll be competing with Lock for the job and they’d love nothing more than for him to come out on fire and keep his starting job.

During the 2023 season with the Giants, Jones played in just six games before going down with the injury. He ended up completing 67.5 percent of his pass attempts for 909 yards, two touchdowns, and six interceptions in those appearances. Back in 2022, he racked up 3,205 yards, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions through the air to go along with 708 yards and seven more rushing touchdowns.

While those numbers don’t look great, the New York Giants saw a bright future ahead of him when they locked him up long-term. Head coach Brian Daboll was very high on Jones’ potential when the deal happened.

At just 26 years of age, there is still time for Jones to turn his career around. He’ll need to do it this season though. If he has another dud of a year, the Giants will likely move on.

All of that being said, it will be interesting to watch the New York Giants’ quarterback competition. Jones will be given a shot to prove that he still belongs in New York. We’ll see what he does with that opportunity.
