New York Giants sign RB Devin Singletary to three-year deal
Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Giants are in need of some help in the run game after losing Saquon Barkley in free agency. They found some aid out on the market themselves, though, with the reported signing of Devin Singletary.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network shared news of the signing per a source in a tweet on Monday afternoon. Per Adam Schefter at ESPN, it’s a three-year, $16.5 million deal, one that could be worth as much as $19.5 million, that the sides have reportedly agreed upon to bring Singletary to The Big Apple for next season.

Next year will be Singletary’s sixth professional season after four with the Buffalo Bills and his latest one in Houston. This came after he was a third-round selection at No. 74 overall by Buffalo in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Over 78 games in the NFL, Singletary has posted 5,213 yards overall. That’s good for 4.9 yards per touch and 24 total touchdowns. 4,049 of those yards and 20 of those scores came on 888 attempts on the ground. The remaining yardage (1,164) and touchdowns (four) came from 175 receptions.

2023 was a career season for Singletary in his lone year with the Texans. He was the team’s leading rusher with 898 yards and four scores off of 216 rushes. That was good for 52.8 yards per game at 4.2 yards per carry. He also caught 30 balls for 193 more yards.

Barkley leaves NYC after leading the Giants in rushing in five of his six seasons with the franchise. The only season that he didn’t was one where he tore his ACL just two games into the year. Now, after rushing for an average of over 1,000 yards, posting almost 1,450 total yards per year, and scoring 47 total touchdowns in each of those five seasons in New York, he is heading to Philadelphia within the division.

The Giants had several carries open up today with Barkley leaving to play for the Eagles. That should give Singletary plenty of opportunity in New York’s backfield with another chance to be in a leading back-type role.
