New York Giants three biggest remaining needs heading into Day Two of 2024 NFL Draft
Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Giants and Joe Schoen loved how the first five picks of the 2024 NFL Draft went on Thursday night. Malik Nabers, WR LSU dropped right into their lap, making it an easy decision to finally give their offense a dynamic playmaker. However, the team still has some significant remaining needs heading into day two now.

The Giants are on the clock twice throughout rounds two and three of the draft as day two kicks off at 7 p.m. ET on Friday.

  • No. 47 overall (from Seattle)
  • No. 70 overall

Let's dive into the biggest remaining needs for the Giants to see where general manager Joe Schoen (and perhaps Brian Daboll) may go with the next two selections.

1. Cornerback

The Giants landed a solid hit in last year's draft with Deonte Banks, but they severely need to upgrade their second cornerback spot in this draft. They could even stack a second cornerback pick in the later rounds too. Cornerback likely makes sense as the priority with their first pick on day two given how the board has fallen so far. The good news is that several top cornerbacks are still available after the crazy run on offensive players in round one.

Potential Targets: T.J. Tampa (Iowa State), Ennis Rakestraw Jr. (Missouri), Kamari Lassiter (Georgia), Max Melton (Rutgers)

2. Safety

The Giants return almost zero quality snaps at safety outside of Jason Pinnock. They did bring in Jalen Mills, but he's been inconsistent in coverage for his entire career, which is why he converted to safety in the first place. They could use a do-it-all safety with the skills to play in the box, the slot, and deep. There still hasn't been a safety selected in the 2024 NFL Draft yet, so that means all the top options are still available.

Potential Targets: Tyler Nubin (Minnesota), Jaden Hicks (Washington State), Calen Bullock (USC), Cole Bishop (Utah), Javon Bullard (Georgia)

3. Tight End

Darren Waller still hasn't announced whether he'll be retiring soon or not, but either way the Giants will have a huge need at the position in the not-so-distant future. Daniel Bellinger is quite terrible as a second tight end option bringing absolutely zero upside as a receiver. Ja'Tavion Sanders would be the second round target if they went that direction. The prime window where a handful of tight ends likely come off the board is round three.

Potential options: Ja'Tavion Sanders (Texas), Ben Sinnott (Kansas State), Theo Johnson (Penn State), Cade Stover (Ohio State)
