New York Jets Injury Update: Denzel Mims, Cedric Ogbuehi, Lamarcus Joyner, others
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets are coming off of a mini-bye playing on Thursday night last week. Certainly, beneficial at this later point in the season with a cross-country trip to Seattle looming. Physically, the Jets should be feeling good going into this pivotal matchup.

On the injury front as well, the Jets are getting some good news with the return of a few important players. Head coach Robert Saleh shared the following updates at his press conference this morning.

New York Jets Injury Update:

Denzel Mims nearing return:

Third-year wide receiver, Denzel Mims, has missed nearly the entirety of the last two games. He had to exit Week 15 against the Lions with a concussion. On a short week, playing last Thursday night, Mims was not cleared to go.

Now, though, Saleh informed reporters that Mims is in the final stage of concussion protocol.

Big for the Jets’ depth at wide receiver. Mims has been Corey Davis’ primary backup as the receiver who adds a size element on the outside. He has 11 catches for 186 yards this year.

Cedric Ogbuehi returns from IR:

All season long, the Jets’ offensive tackle position has been unstable, with endless injuries. Cedric Ogbuehi had to leave Week 12 early with a groin injury.

He spent the last four weeks on injured reserve. Saleh declared that Ogbuehi will return to practice today. Ogbuehi has done a nice job in the five games he has played and provides solid depth behind Duane Brown and George Fant as the third swing tackle.

Lamarcus Joyner back practicing:

The Jets starting free safety, Lamarcus Joyner, was back practicing today after missing the last two games with a hip injury.

In Joyner’s absence, it has been Will Parks for the most part, alongside Jordan Whitehead with more reps for an undrafted rookie, Tony Adams.

Jeff Smith and Brandin Echols remain out of practice:

Both wide receiver Jeff Smith (knee) and cornerback Brandin Echols (quad) are not practicing today. Smith had to exit Week 15, and Echols has missed the last two games. The two are the primary punt coverage gunners opposite of Pro Bowler Justin Hardee. Hopefully, progress is made over the next two days.
