The New York Jets have seen a change in their regime and with that comes some questions about the roster. However, one player with high upside announced his retirement on Wednesday. Jordan Travis was selected in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft and was viewed as a potential future quarterback option as he finished fifth in the 2023 Heisman Trophy voting with the Florida State Seminoles. Let’s take a look at the statement provided as well as what this means going forward for the Jets.

New York Jets’ Jordan Travis Announces NFL Retirement

Jordan Travis posted a statement on his social media platforms and was thankful to the New York Jets as the medical team advised him to retire from football.

Jordan Travis had a massive season for the Florida State Seminoles in the 2023 season as he completed 207 of 324 (63.9%) of his passes for 2,756 yards with 20 passing touchdowns to two interceptions as well as 73 rushing attempts for 176 yards (2.4 yards per carry) with seven rushing touchdowns. He suffered a fractured and dislocated ankle in Nov. 2023 and did not play a snap for the New York Jets as he would spend all of 2024 on the non-football injury list since he suffered the injury in college.

New Jets general manager Darren Mougey confirmed the news in a statement:

“Jordan has informed us of his intent to retire due to the injury he sustained while at Florida State. It is unfortunate that he was unable to get back on the field after working so hard. We support his decision and wish him only the best.”

The New York Jets quarterback room now looks like Justin Fields as the starting quarterback with Tyrod Taylor, Adrian Martinez, and rookie Brady Cook competing for the backup quarterback spot.
